What is the MySkinDoctor acne pathway?

MySkinDoctor is a mobile application (App) which enables you to have your isotretinoin follow up reviews remotely.

The App allows you to have your monthly follow up reviews remotely through a telephone consultation with the dermatology nurse specialist.

What are the benefits of this service?

The App creates a space to upload the required images of your skin and negative pregnancy test for the nurse to assess during your telephone review, for a further prescription of isotretinoin.

Using MySkinDoctor's remote pathway will save you a regular trip to the clinic for your follow up reviews. If you need to be seen in clinic, you will be booked an appointment directly with a specialist. This innovative process saves time, resources and is good for the environment.

Getting started

Following your initial face to face appointment, you will be booked a remote follow up review for either 1 or 2 months' time. You will also be provided with a link to download the MySkinDoctor App, and sent some pregnancy tests in the post to your registered home address.

You can download the App simply by clicking on the link sent to you in the invitation SMS or by visiting the App Store or Google Play Store by clicking the links below.

What happens if I forget to upload a pregnancy test photograph?

Strict monitoring of patients is required to allow for further prescribing of Isotretinoin. All female patients of child bearing age are required to take a pregnancy test no more than 3 days before their review. Images of a negative pregnancy test along with the packaging and serial number must be uploaded the day before your review for it to proceed.

If you do not upload a negative pregnancy test the day before your review, your review will not proceed and you will be marked as DNA.

I can no longer attend my review and need to re-arrange

If you must reschedule, an appointment during the same week cannot be guaranteed and the next available appointment will be booked. Rebooking your appointment is likely to require submission of new images including a new pregnancy test result prior to your new appointment date.

Please contact our administration team on 01903 896625 who can re-arrange your review.

I have missed my last 3 follow-up reviews. What do I do?

After you have missed 3 consecutive appointments, you will automatically be discharged back to your GP and will require a new referral.

I have missed my review and have run out of medication. What happens?

If you have missed your review and subsequently run out of medication, you can call our administration team to check if there have been any cancellations for an earlier review.

Please note: Isotretinoin will stay in your system for up to 2-3 weeks, so this will not affect your treatment.

I have run out of pregnancy tests

You will be provided with pregnancy tests throughout the course of your treatment. If you have run out of pregnancy tests, please advise the nurse of this during your consultation or contact our administration team on 01903 896625 who will be able to send more in the post.

I haven't had my blood tests done

Patients are required to have regular blood tests throughout the treatment course. If you have been requested to have a blood test, you will need to book this as soon as you have received the form, prior to your next review. Without the requested blood results, your prescription may be delayed.

If you forget to upload images and need further access, please contact us on 01903 896625 before the day of your review, so we can grant access.

Any requests to upload further images the day of your review will not be accepted, and you will be marked as DNA.

Can I use any brand of pregnancy test?

You will be provided with our preferred pregnancy tests throughout the treatment course, which we recommend using.

If you have run out of pregnancy tests and you are due to have your review, you may purchase a pregnancy test to submit ahead of your review.

Please note: You must include images of all the packaging an the pregnancy test instructions for the nurse to verify.

The nurse will attempt to call you once at the time of your review, if all required images have been uploaded in time. If there is no reply, the nurse will attempt to call once more.

If you miss 2 calls from the nurse, the nurse will not call again and you will be marked as DNA.

Please ensure you are available to take the call at your appointment time.

Can I email my images?
